Not your run of the mill combat memoir; author George Ragsdale takes the reader on a journey that winds through his tour of duty and his mind. This book deals with issues as old as war itself. His retrospective views on what and how his life changed makes for some interesting, as well as, thought provoking reading.

To quote from the book’s back cover:

“This is a story about one soldier’s quest to become the best radar repairman in the United States Army that leads him into the heart of the Vietnam war along the demilitarization zone (DMZ) …eventually assigned to most of the fire support bases along the DMZ, …Ragsdale sees his dreams and military career shattered by the realities of war. Command incompetence, the military’s disintegration, and daily combat with the NVA …take its toll on him.”

Like all war memoirs this one is very unique and different even for old vets like me who know next to nothing about some of the stuff that he writes about in his book. It was an education in some areas and a heart breaking reconnection as well with that time and place we call VIETNAM.

A good read for almost any mature person. If you have issues with PTSD or someone in your family does — this may be a good book to read so that you can gain some understanding
