When I opened the envelope and pulled out this music CD, my gut feeling and my eyes told me to prepare for sounds of islanders beating drums, joyous dancers, and native songs.  Staring at the picture on the CD case, I was, for a brief moment, mesmerized by thoughts of a gentle, sea breeze, of sandy beaches and a quiet lagoon, of the expanse of turquoise, waters of an ocean touching the distant horizon and, of coconuts and palm trees on a remote island somewhere in the Pacific Ocean.

When I put on my headphones and pushed the play button, I quickly found out just how fooled I had been by the cover.  For the next forty minutes, I listened intently to twelve very beautiful, inspirational and, poignant, spiritual songs.  As I listened, I tapped my fingers and feet to the rhythm of the music.  I was feeling the beat of each song and feeling the words reaching out and touching me with an unseen spirit.

I heard music and words that held an amazing and enriching quality and warmth but, the sounds were uniquely different, yet familiar.  Instead of hearing the sound of church hymns, instead of hearing soulful praises to God, I heard music and love reminiscent of the harmony and music of the Beach Boys, the tempo of a Jim Croce ballad, hints of Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, and the Bee Gees, of country western singer George Strait, the excitement and youthful passion of a Petula Clark song, and the depth of the love in Bryan Adam’s song, “Everything I Do I Do It For You”.

Although the CD is not a flawless, music production, James Jellerson & Friends have, nevertheless, created an amazing, fulfilling, uplifting, and wonderful, spiritual CD.  The lyrics and the music reflect the marvelous talent and faith that James Jellerson possesses and clearly shows why this Music CD is worthy of a MWSA Five-Star rating and top award in the “Spiritual Music” category.  I highly recommend “Goin’ Home” to everyone.
